Our History

    

The Shipman Cooperative Elevator Company was originated by a group of area farmers in 1919. At the first Annual Meeting held June 7, 1920 seven directors were elected. L.B Manning, Wm. H. Schoeneman, W.S. Matlack, W.G. Frank, H.J. Heal, C.T. Breitwiser, and A.G. Schoeneman. On March 18, 1946, the company took the name “Shipman Elevator Company” and was governed by a board of seven directors. In 1977 Shipman Elevator Company had only 12 employees. Now, over theirty years later CHS in Shipman has nearly 70 full-time employees. 

This cooperative system still lives today. In 2012, Shipman Elevator Company merged into part of the Country Operations division of CHS Inc. CHS Inc.
